For almost 2 years I worked off and on on a story tentatively titled "Grace Song". I started the first draft of this story on January 8, 2012. I finally finished it on the evening of December 31, 2013. That's just a few days shy of 2 years. The word count is 21,998 - just shy of 22,000. That's halfway to the size of a novel, by the way. It's a novella. The official title of this story is now "Shades Of Grace". The title refers to God's grace being available in various situations. I'll share one of the verses that I have placed after the end of the story.
"But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we
were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8What am I working on next? I have 3 stories that are still in their first drafts. I want to get to work editing these. These stories are "Awakened From Slumber", "The Bond", and "Witness". I know that previously I had mentioned wanting to do major revision on the story "Little Sister". "Grey's Cove" is another story that also needs major revision. I would like to work on both of these and get them both revised this year.
It's been my habit to finish 1 or 2 new stories each year. For 2013 I just barely finished 1 new story - "Shades Of Grace". Let's do better than that in 2014. I'm setting my goal at doing 3 new stories this year. If I do more than that, that will be a treat.
The hymn "Amazing Grace" (by John Newton) figures very prominently in the story "Shades Of Grace". The hymn is sung at the beginning of the story, in the middle of the story, and at the end of the story. Can you tell I love this hymn? I'll leave you with the first verse of "Amazing Grace".
"Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch
like me.I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.”
